Llangadog meeting at Tai’r Gwaith track

Jump Straight to Results

The new trotting season started with a glorious sunny day at the Tair-gwaith all-weather track near Ammanford as the Llangadog committee once again continued to make history as the oldest trotting meeting in Britain presented the first meeting of the 2013 season.

The first races are nursery races to introduce young horses to the sport, Hendre Bob the young horse belonging to the Jones family from Llanllwni put in a fine performance under the gentle guidance of driver/trainer Debbie Hitchcock from Haverfordwest to finish in front of Highbrooks Eternal (Probert Merthyr) and first time out Made in Wales (Evans Red Roses). Forsas Dream owned by the Lloyd family from Kington made a dream start in his career to win the second race from Tyssul Pearl (Atherton Narberth) and Finnbarr Messenger (Meaney, Merthyr).

The Grade B heat provided the first races for punters to follow their fancies, Brywins Snowflake the lovely grey driven by Aled Davies for the Weigel family from Llanddewi Velfry claimed the first spoils from Bon Hasty (Collingwood Huntington) with the favourite Too Hot Today (Jones Merthyr) only managing third. The aptly named Kickstart was a worthy favourite in the second B heat as his trainer Andrew Hardwick steered him to victory for the Williams family from Brecon in second was Ithon Gypsy (Jones Llandrindod) while Vyrnwy Taffi (Jones Llandysul) was third.

The Grade A heats followed with the outsider Blackfield Buddy providing a tremendous start to the season for the Barton family from Clynderwen beating new horse Kestrels Rouge (Wilson Pencader) into second and Terripan Hanover (Davies Lampeter) was third. Bon Jasper provided a good win for the Jones family from Llanllwni as Debbie Hitchcock brought him home in front of Saunders Playboy (Pritchard Rhosgoch) with another new horse Premier Dream (Thomas Rhymney) in third.

The Novice was a straight race with victory going to a new horse and owner combination, the Wayne Knox trained Brywins Duckling belonging to Luke Gethin from Gilwern the horse now takes his place in open racing, in second was Man of the Day (Harries Llanybydder) while Miss Thunder (Meaney Merthyr) was third.

The wonderful afternoon of racing concluded with the two open finals, the first the Grade B gave Aled Davies from Lampeter the choice of two drives, Wayne Knox took the drive on Ithon Gypsy who produced a sizzling run for Hazel Jones from Llandrindod relegating Kickstart (Williams Brecon) to second place and Aled’s drive Brywins Snowflake (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) to third. In the Grade A final the 2011 winner Blackfield Buddy regained his crown by sheer determination under the enthusiastic persuasion of Robert Barton for his mother Margaret from Clynderwen, in second was new comer Kestrels Rouge (Wilson Pencader) who looks set to make his mark in W&BC with Terripan Hanover (Davies Lampeter) in third.

So with a wonderful day of superb weather and racing the season is off to a good start, the next meeting is Saturday May 11th again at Tair-gwaith track starting at 1.30 pm.
