Beulah Show WBCRA Race Results

Jump Straight to Results

Although the weather in the last few days had not been kind, Saturday proved to be pleasant with only the odd shower to bring out the umbrellas. The track at Beulah show was soft so that the horses’ stamina was tested especially with the uphill finish.

The nursery race which is for inexperienced horses or drivers began the racing and Steve Lewis from Llandrindod driving his own Aberelan led up the run in proving that this pair really are ready to enter the punter’s races, in second was Jake Lobell (Greenway Michaelchurch) while new recruit Blackfield Bentley (Lloyd Kington) was third.

The first Novice heat saw the in form Lloyd family from Kington score another victory as Boomshakalakka piloted by Sarah Price beat the weekly improving Sandside Cash (Elder New Quay) with always there or thereabouts Alpine Heights (Brent Ladek, Cleobury Mortimer). Clares Own (Evans Newcastle Emlyn) added another victory to her impressive list in the second heat partnered as usual by Mathew Tromans with Tricksters Dream (Flint Porthcawl) only a nostril behind in second while Greenhill Megan (Morgan Rhymney) was third.

Despite his back mark Ithon Cracker (White Porthcawl) in the first heat of the Grade B scorched around the track. He raced up the home straight in front, aided by vociferous support from the White children, in second was Chinatown Maori (Jones Merthyr) while Master Tom (Owens Shobdon) was third. In the second heat Abernant (Greenway, Michaelchurch & Hardwick Brecon) added another victory to his successful season winning from Bon Beti (Evans Jones, Rhymney) while Coalford Time (Harries Merthyr) was third.

The flying grey Scoobys Dream (Lloyd Kington) took the top honours in the first heat of the Grade A from the beautiful black, Ithon Ace (Williams Shrewsbury), while Vodka Express (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) was third. The black mare Bon Bethan (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) stole the show in the second heat as Louisa Myers steered her to victory ahead of Llandrindod classic winner Ithon Eagle (Neville Guilsfield) with Live the Dream (Langford Ammanford) in third.

There was only one Baby Novice race this week however with eight entries it was certainly no ‘walk-over’. Durham Direct (Hughes Builth Wells) after a late start this season has shown marked improvement over the last few weeks and on Saturday he repeated his success at last year’s show beating another improver Golden Nugget (Gwatkin Evenjobb) while Ithon Ghost (Wellings Ludlow) was third.

The finals were as usual the highlight of the evening. The Novice was won by the well bred Tricksters Dream (Flint Porthcawl) with Derek Pritchard in the seat in second was the grey Alpine Heights owned by blacksmith Brent Ladek from Cleobury Mortimer while Boomshakalakka from the Lloyd stable in Kington had to settle for third. The Grade B gave Derek Pritchard a back to back double as he partnered the stable’s Bon Beti (Evans Jones, Rhymney) to success in front of back marker Abernant (Greenway Michaelchurch Eskley & Hardwick Brecon) while Chinatown Maori (Jones Merthyr) was third.

In the Grade A final Steve Williams from Shrewsbury had the enviable decision of whether to drive Ithon Ace or Ithon Eagle. He decided to drive his own Ace while putting friend Alan Peters in charge of Ithon Eagle. Eagle has had a fantastic season for caravan park owners Doug Neville and family from Guilsfield, and he provided yet more thrills by winning this race in spectacular fashion from a trail of thirty yards. In second was the in form Scoobys Dream (Lloyd Kington) while the other grey Live the Dream (Langford Ammanford) was third.
